May 7.
On
this day in 1915, the Lusitania, a British cargo and passenger ship, was sunk by
a German torpedo. The ship sank in only 20 minutes, and 1201 people perished.
One of the dead was American publisher Elbert Hubbard. In 1892, at age 36,
Hubbard had resigned from a sales and marketing job; he then founded Roycroft
Press, a small publishing company in East Aurora, New York. Soon, he became a
favorite common-sense philosopher for millions of Americans in the early years
of the twentieth century. Hubbard once advised, “Happiness is a habit. Cultivate
it.” And, he was right; happiness is habit-forming. But, it’s up to you
to form the habit.
THOUGHTS ON HAPPINESS…

within themselves. Happiness is not something ready-made that can be given to

The Dalai Lama
“The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his
feet.”
James Oppenheimer
“Too many wish to be happy before becoming wise.”
Suzanne Curchod Necker
“Earth’s crammed with
heaven.”
Elizabeth Barrett Browning
”Lead the life that will make
you kindly and friendly to everyone about you, and you will be surprised what a
happy life you will have.”
Charles M. Schwab
