American
novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs (left) experienced failure many times before he attained
wealth and fame. First, he was expelled from high school. Subsequently, he
worked as a cowboy, policeman, gold miner and shop owner, all with little or no
success. Then, at age thirty-five, Mr. Burroughs tried his hand at writing. One
year later, he penned a story about a fictional jungle hero named Tarzan. Tarzan
quickly made Edgar Rice Borroughs one of the most popular writers on the planet,
proving that his contemporary Mary Pickford was right when she observed,
"Failure isn’t falling down. It’s staying down." So if you’ve
experienced a setback or two, or even three, don’t get down, get busy … busy
searching for your next great adventure. Because failure is never final.
But if you give up on yourself … it’s a jungle out there.
