On
this day in 1903, comedian Bob Hope was born. Hope’s father was an English
stonemason who moved his family to Cleveland when Bob was four years old. Bob
went on to become a star of radio, stage screen and television. And he
entertained the American military from one end of the globe to the other. A
friend summed up the Hope’s great appeal this way: “The secret of his success is
that Bob Hope is content with being Bob Hope.” The rest of us should do
likewise, and that’s no joke.
