On this day in 1968, George Halas retired as the head
coach of the Chicago Bears. Halas had founded the team and coached it for 48
years. During his tenure, the Bears won six NFL championships. When questioned
about working for 48 years in the same job, Halas replied, “It’s only work if
you’d rather be doing something else.” Hopefully, we, too, can find work
that seems more like play.
