Daily Dose of Inspired Wisdom for Quote Lovers.
May 24.
On
this day in 1974, the great composer and bandleader Duke Ellington died of
cancer at the age of 75. Before the age of 20, Ellington formed his first band
and began appearing in the nightclubs of Harlem. During his 40-year
collaboration with fellow composer Billy Strayhorn, Mr. Ellington composed some
of jazz music’s most enduring classics. In 1969 Duke received the Presidential
Medal of Freedom, an award befitting one of America’s greatest musical figures.
A brief sampling of his considerable wisdom appears below:
Life According to Duke Ellington…
“There are two kinds of worries — those you can do
something about and those you can't. Don't spend any time on the latter.”
“Don’t stop to analyze the performance. Just perform…and enjoy.”
“Any day you wake up is a good day.”
“Every Intersection on the road of life is an
opportunity.”
“My mother told me I was blessed, and I have always taken her word for it.”
Today’s Bible Verse
Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for
the Lord God, my God, is with you.
1 Chronicles 28:20 NIV
