A Daily Dose of Inspired Wisdom for Quote Lovers. May 22.

O
n this day in 1859, Arthur Conan Doyle (pictured here), was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Doyle was the creator of the legendary fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. Arthur Conan Doyle received a medical degree in 1881 and published his first Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet, in 1887. By 1890, he gave up the practice of medicine altogether and turned his full energies to writing. The amazing Holmes and his associate Dr. Watson have entertained mystery fans for well over a century and continue to do so today. On this page, we pay tribute to Sir Arthur by quoting the words of his enduring creation…

 All-purpose Advice from Sherlock Holmes

“Work is the best antidote to sorrow.”

“A man should keep his little brain attic stocked with all the furniture that he is likely to use, and the rest he can put away in the lumber-room of his library where he can get it if he wants it.”

“Education never ends, Watson. It is a series of lessons, with the greatest for the last.”

“Things must be done decently and in order.”

“I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? “

“My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people don't know.”

Today’s Bible Verse

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5 NASB
