A
Daily Dose of Inspired Wisdom for Quote Lovers.
May 2.
On
this day in 1932, the Pulitzer Prize was awarded to Pearl Buck for her classic
novel The Good Earth. This novel, considered her finest work, describes
daily life in China
while chronicling a Chinese peasant’s rise to wealth. It was America’s
best-selling book for the years 1931 and 1932. In 1938, less than a decade
after her first book was published, Buck was awarded the Nobel Prize for
literature (she was the first American woman to receive that honor). Before her
death in 1973, Pearl Buck completed over 85 books. An abbreviated sample of her
considerable wisdom is featured below:
Words
of Wisdom from Pearl S. Buck…
“Once
the 'what' is decided, the 'how' always follows. We must not make the 'how' an
excuse for not facing and accepting the 'what.’”
“To eat bread without hope is still slowly to starve to
death.”
“Love dies only when growth stops.”
“The secret of joy in work is contained in one word: excellence. To know how to
do something well is to enjoy it.”
“Perhaps one has to be very old before one learns to be amused rather than
shocked.”
Today’s Bible Verse
Rejoice always,
pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in
Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NKJV
