On
this day in 1888, Israel Baline was born in
Tyumen,
Russia.
He immigrated with his family to
America as
a child and grew up in a poor neighborhood in
New York City.
For a time, Israel made his living as a singing waiter, but he found his true
calling in 1907 when he began writing songs. His first hit was Alexander’s
Ragtime Band, but his two greatest classics were God Bless America
and White Christmas. Along the way, Israel changed his name to Irving
Berlin. The man who wrote There’s No Business Like Show Business once
observed that “Life is 10% how you make it and 90% how you take it.”
Bravo, and God bless Irving Berlin.
Attitude
Determines Altitude
“The greatest discovery of my generation is
that man can alter his life simply by altering his attitude of mind.”
William James
”Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do.
Attitude determines how well you do it.”
Lou Holtz
“The real secret of success is enthusiasm. Yes, more than enthusiasm, I
would say excitement. When people get excited, they make a success of their
lives.”
Walter Chrysler
“Nothing is good or
bad but thinking makes it so.”
Shakespeare
“The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing
heart.”
Robert G. Ingersoll
“So it is with cheerfulness: The more of it is spent, the more of it
remains.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Today’s Bible Verse
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever
things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever
things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything
praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:8 NKJV
