this day in 1940, Winston Churchill succeeded Neville Chamberlain as British
Prime Minister. The inspirational leader of the Allied forces during World War
II, Churchill was arguably the pivotal figure of the 20th century. He was also
one of the century's greatest orators; his message of courage, boldness, and
perseverance that is destined to inspire future generations. Churchill once
advised, "Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never—in nothing great or
small, large or petty—never give in except to conviction of honor and good
sense." His advice still applies.
