On
October 29, 1941, Winston Churchill spoke to the students and faculty at Harrow
School. His four-minute speech, delivered amidst the chaos of World War II,
still
speaks to the
hearts of courageous men and women everywhere:
"Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never —
in nothing great or small, large or petty — never give in except to conviction
of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently
overwhelming might of the enemy….
Do not let us speak of darker days. Let us speak rather of
sterner days. These are not dark days; these are great days — the greatest
days our country has ever lived, and we must all thank God that we have been
allowed, each of us according to our stations, to play a part in making these
days memorable in the history of our race."
Churchill’s words remind us that in times of adversity,
perseverance is the price of victory.

PERSEVERE

ON THE VALUE
OF PERSEVERANCE…

can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; . . . Genius will not; . . .
Education will not; . . . Persistence and determination alone are
omnipotent."

"When we do our best, we never know what miracles await."
Helen Keller
"By persisting in your path, though you forfeit the little, you gain
the great."

succeed is to always try just one more time."

PERSEVERANCE
PAYS…
"First, one must
endure."
Ernest Hemingway

endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."
Christopher Reeve
"You have to find something that you love enough to be able to take risks,
jump over the hurdles, and break through the brick walls that are always going
to be placed in front of you. If you don't have that kind of feeling for what it
is you're doing, you'll stop at the first giant hurdle.
George Lucas
"There is no royal road to anything. Do one things at a time and all things
in succession. That which grows slowly, endures."
J. G. Holland
"Never stop. One always stops as soon as something is about to
happen."

DON’T GIVE
UP…YOU MAY BE CLOSER THAN YOU THINK!
"Many of life’s
failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they
gave up."
Thomas Edison
"Don’t bother about genius. Don’t worry about being clever. Trust hard
work, perseverance, and determination. And the best motto for the long march is,
‘Don’t grumble. Plug on!’"

"If I had to cram all my tournament experience into one sentence, I would
say, "Don't give up and don't let up!"

"All great masters are chiefly distinguished by the power of adding a
second, a third, and perhaps a fourth step in a continuous line. Many a man had
taken the first step. With every additional step you enhance immensely the value
of your first."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Big shots are only little shots who kept on shooting."
Harvey Mackay
