In 1903, Orville and Wilber Wright made first successful manned powered-airplane flight near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Four years later to the day, famed Irish mathematician Lord William Thomson Kelvin died. Before the Wright Brothers proved him wrong, Lord Kelvin had proclaimed, "Heavier-than-air flying machines are impossible." Today, after a century of air travel, we are reminded that the word "impossible" is a word that is best used with the utmost care.
