On October 1, 1955, the classic old-time television show The Honeymooners premiered on the CBS network. The Honeymooners had already gained popularity as a regular feature of Jackie Gleason’s variety show The Cavalcade of Stars, but the recurring skit was so popular that it earned a time slot of its own. The Honeymooners was set in the mythical apartment of Ralph and Alice Kramden (located at 328 Chauncey Street in Brooklyn). The Kramdens struggled to make ends meet, but the show’s star, Jackie Gleason, was as successful as he was flamboyant. Jackie possessed great natural talent and he managed his own career with courage and bravado. Gleason advised, "Throughout life, failure snaps at our heels like a great mongrel dog. The key to success is realizing that the dog is really a harmless puppy." And once we put the fear of failure in its proper place, then, to quote Jackie, "Awwwwwwwway we go!

In Order to Dispel Fear, Face Reality and Get Busy

"Do not weep; do not wax indignant. Understand."
Baruch Spinoza

"Life has no other discipline to impose, if we would but realize it, than to accept life unquestioningly. Everything we shut our eyes to, everything we run away from, everything we deny, denigrate or despise, serves to defeat us in the end. What seems nasty, painful, evil, can become a source of beauty, joy and strength, if faced with an open mind. Every moment is a golden one for him who has the vision to recognize it as such."
Henry Miller

"A serene acceptance of what is promotes health, but by keeping the mind clear it also puts a person in a better position to change things that need changing."
