The man who wrote God Bless America was born in Russia. He also wrote White
Christmas, and lived to be 101 years old. Born in Russia, he immigrated to
the U. S. and grew up in a poor New York City neighborhood. For a time, made
his living as a singing waiter, but he found his true calling in 1907 when he
began writing songs. His first hit was Alexander’s Ragtime Band, but
his two greatest classics were God Bless America and White Christmas.
He was Irving Berlin, and he once observed, "Life is ten percent how you
make it and ninety percent how you take it." Berlin understood that in
life, attitude is everything. So if you’ve become caught up in the daily
grind, slow down, compose your thoughts, and count your blessings. Because in
life, as Irving Berlin was quick to point out, how you take it determines
if you’ll make it … to the top.
